SHO Rao Ali slapped two motorcyclists in Multan on Wednesday after they attempted to cross a closed road despite restrictions imposed due to the flood threat. The citizens were reportedly trying to move from Garewala Chowk to the opposite side, ignoring safety measures.
Police sealed Mohammad Wala Road overnight as rising waters from the Chenab River threatened the area. Commissioner of Multan Aamir Karim Khan confirmed that traffic at Head Muhammad Wala has already been suspended. He warned that authorities may be forced to breach the Head for safety if pressure continues to mount.
The major Chenab flood wave currently passing through Head Trimmu is expected to reach Multan by tonight, while water levels at Head Sidhnai are rising rapidly, posing a threat to Pir Mahal and Khanewal.
At present, the water gauge at Head Muhammadwala stands at 408 feet, with the critical mark at 417 feet. Officials said the technical committee will decide on breaching Head Muhammadwala based on the speed and intensity of the flood wave, among other factors.
Authorities urged residents to comply with restrictions, stressing that the closures were necessary to protect lives amid the worsening flood emergency.
