ISLAMABAD:

In line with Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan’s directive, party lawmakers have begun resigning from the National Assembly’s standing committees. PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan on Wednesday submitted 18 resignations to the NA Speaker’s office.

Those who stepped down from the chairmanships and memberships of various committees include Junaid Akbar, Sahibzada Saifullah, Mahboob Shah, Shahzada Gustasab, Ali Jadoon, Mujahid Ali, Malik Anwar Taj, Fazal Muhammad Khan, Sajid Khan, Arbab Amir Ayub, Asif Khan, Sheikh Waqas Akram, Arshad Sahi, Malik Amir Dogar, Shabbir Ali Qureshi, and Awais Jhakkar.

Barrister Gohar himself resigned from four committees — Law and Justice, Human Rights, Information Technology, and the House Business Advisory Committee.

Later, Shehryar Afridi, Mobeen Arif Jatt, Usama Maila, and PTI leader Sher Afzal Marwat also tendered their resignations to the party chairman.

Taking to X, Malik Amir Dogar wrote: "I hereby resign from the National Assembly’s standing committees in accordance with the directive of my leader Imran Khan."

He added that he was a true soldier of Imran Khan, and no position held greater meaning for him than his leader. "The sole purpose of my politics is to carry forward Imran Khan’s mission, the true independence of Pakistan, and the service of the people," Dogar said.

It is pertinent to mention that Imran Khan had instructed PTI lawmakers to step down from the NA’s committees after the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) disqualified several party leaders in the wake of their conviction in the May 9 riots cases.

A day earlier, chairman of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) in the National Assembly, Junaid Akbar, resigned. PTI Secretary Information Sheikh Waqas Akram also resigned from PAC and the Information Committee. "Following the instructions of our leader Imran Khan, I submitted my resignation this morning from the Public Accounts Committee and the Information Committee," he said on X.
