Singer Lana Del Rey has spoken about how she met her husband Jeremy Dufrene during a Louisiana swamp boat tour in 2019. In a recent interview with W magazine, the 40-year-old artist revealed she “realised pretty immediately” that she loved him.
“When we met, I realised pretty immediately that I loved him, but that it might get difficult because of what I was bringing to the table,” Del Rey said. According to her, Dufrene responded by saying, “I work with alligators — I have tough skin.”
She added that his calm approach helped during challenging moments: “All the things that made me upset — and there were so many! — he would just listen and say, ‘You be you — and I’ll just love you more.’”
The couple reconnected years later and married in September 2024 in a small ceremony held in the same bayou where Dufrene conducts his tours. Del Rey noted that the first year of marriage was not without difficulties due to increased media attention.
“If I was him, I would have been nervous — my emotions were more overwhelming than usual, and my usual emotions can be quite overwhelming! But Jeremy was fine. He said, ‘If you want, worry about yourself, but don’t worry about me!’”
She described Dufrene as “the most impactful person in my life,” explaining that his quiet sensibility has inspired her music. Their time together, which often includes what they call “parking-lot time” — sitting in cars, reading or talking — became the basis for her unreleased track “Stars Fell on Alabama.”
Del Rey also said her relationship has helped her overcome fears of alligators. “I was nervous at first, but Louisiana has nicer alligators than Florida,” she admitted. “Jeremy swims with the alligators! I swim in the bayou also, and the alligators are there, but I don’t swim alone.”
