Renowned actress Laila Wasti has revealed that a German bone marrow donor played a pivotal role in her recovery from cancer, calling it "the greatest gift of my life."
Speaking in a private TV programme, the actress opened up about her painful battle with the life-threatening illness, sharing how faith, perseverance, and a stranger's generosity gave her a second chance at life.
Wasti recalled that when she was diagnosed with cancer, doctors advised a bone marrow transplant. "For this procedure, the donor's blood sample has to match almost like DNA. None of my family members or friends matched," she said.
She explained that many patients spend years searching for a compatible donor and are forced to undergo multiple rounds of chemotherapy while waiting. "But in my case, an incredible thing happened. Among strangers, 19 potential matches were found," she added.
Among those donors, it was a German man who ultimately stepped forward to donate his bone marrow. "After Allah, it was this German donor who saved my life. His donation became the biggest blessing and gift I could ever receive," Wasti said with gratitude.
The actress, known for her grace and resilience, said she now looks back on her battle as a defining chapter of her lifeone that taught her the value of hope, kindness, and humanity across borders.
