LAHORE:

A newsreader, running her YouTube channel, has been booked for allegedly assaulting a traffic warden when he issued a Rs2,000 challan to her relative for not wearing helmet in Multan on Monday.

According to the First Information Report (FIR), registered at Sabzazar police station, Traffic Warden Muhammad Zarif Ahmad was carrying out his duty when he stopped a motorcycle for violating helmet laws.

The rider, identified as Allah Dittah, was issued Rs2,000 ticket for not wearing a helmet. Following the incident, Dittah reportedly threatened the officer, saying, “Stay here, I’ll be back and won’t spare you.”

Approximately 30 minutes later, a group of seven to eight people, led by a woman identified as Safia, a news YouTuber, reached the scene. The group allegedly began altercation with the officer asking him to cancel the challan. When the officer refused, they became aggressive.

“The group threatened serious consequences, damaged the lights and speedometer glass of my official motorcycle, causing a loss of about Rs25,000,” the traffic warden stated in his complaint. “The attackers said they would block the road, make videos, defame my uniform, and make my video viral on social media.”

The officer claimed Safia snatched the keys of his motorcycle, while others pushed him around and made threats. The group allegedly tried to incite public unrest by blocking the road.

The warden called the 15 helpline, after which the attackers fled the scene. However, with the help of a colleague, the officer apprehended two suspects, Shoaib and Aijaz, but Safia and five others, including Allah Dittah, managed to escape before police arrived.

A case has been filed under sections 186, 189, 341, 427, 149, 147, and 353 of the Pakistan Penal Code, and an investigation is underway to apprehend the remaining suspects.
