Actor Mark Ruffalo has called on world leaders to take urgent action in response to what he described as a “man-made famine” unfolding in Gaza, labeling the crisis a crime against humanity.

In a video posted to Instagram, Ruffalo cited findings from the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC), the internationally recognized authority on food security, which has officially declared famine conditions in Gaza. The IPC report stated that famine was now occurring in Gaza City and nearby towns, affecting more than 500,000 displaced Palestinians.

“This is not a natural disaster. It’s not a drought. It’s a man-made disaster, a criminal act against civilian populations. And it’s being perpetrated by Israel and the IDF,” Ruffalo said. He highlighted the disparity of resources, noting that while food is accessible across the border, Gazan civilians are left in severe deprivation.

Ruffalo urged the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, and European leaders to intervene immediately, warning that continued inaction would lead to further civilian deaths. According to his statement, more than 80 percent of casualties in the conflict have been non-combatants, which he described as “insane” and “heartbreaking.”

Alongside the video, Ruffalo wrote that forced starvation in Gaza was not an accident of war but a deliberate policy. “What we’re witnessing in Gaza is not just a tragedy, it is a crime against humanity,” he said, calling for accountability, a permanent ceasefire, and protection for civilians.

The IPC report marks the first official declaration of famine in Gaza, underscoring the severity of the humanitarian emergency.
