Addison Rae has spoken out after receiving no nominations at the 2025 MTV VMAs despite her debut album’s success.

Released earlier this summer, the self-titled record peaked at No. 4 on the Billboard 200 and fuelled demand for her first headlining tour. With hit singles such as “Diet Pepsi” and “Aquamarine” attracting millions of streams, many expected her to feature in categories like Best New Artist.

When nominations were revealed without her name, Rae admitted she felt overlooked. “It’s definitely funny when you feel like you put a lot of work into something and it doesn’t get recognized by some place that you feel like you were contributing to,” she said in a recent Apple Music interview with Zane Lowe.

Rae also addressed another viral moment involving her music. Broadway and recording star Ben Platt performed an orchestral cover of “Diet Pepsi” at the 2025 Las Culturistas Culture Awards. The cover went viral on social media after it was released on streaming, with many praising it as being better than the original.

When asked about the rendition, Rae said she had seen it and was impressed. “It was a very full circle moment because some of the people who worked on that song, I had worked with on my EP, so that was funny and full circle.”

She added, “Ben is amazing and has an incredible voice so I was very honoured to see his rendition of the song."
