Derrick Rose, the former Chicago Bulls star and hometown hero, has shared an emotional reaction after the team announced it will retire his No. 1 jersey on 24 January 2026. The ceremony will be held at the United Center following the Bulls’ game against the Boston Celtics.

The announcement underscores Rose’s lasting impact on both the Bulls and the city. Chicago will celebrate his career with a series of fan events, including special displays and interactive experiences in the United Center atrium.
In addition, fans can collect four limited-edition figurines highlighting key moments from his career, such as “Rookie of the Year” Rose and “MVP” Rose.
Rose, drafted first overall in 2008, quickly became the face of the franchise. He won Rookie of the Year in 2009 and became the youngest MVP in NBA history in 2011, averaging 25 points and leading Chicago to a 62-20 record. Even as injuries reshaped his career, his connection with the city never faded.
Bulls chairman Jerry Reinsdorf called Rose “a hometown hero and a symbol of an entire era of Bulls basketball,” while president Michael Reinsdorf highlighted his enduring bond with Chicago.
On 24 January 2026, Derrick Rose’s No. 1 jersey will be raised to the rafters joining Michael Jordan's No. 23, Scottie Pippen's No. 33, Jerry Sloan's No. 4 and Bob Love's No. 10.
