Heavy to moderate rainfall lashed southern Sindh districts on Tuesday, inundating many urban centres while bringing relief to drought hit region of Thar desert.
Rain showers, ranging from light drizzle to heavy downpour, hit Hyderabad on Tuesday, leaving several low-lying areas waterlogged and large parts of the city plunged into darkness after widespread power outages.
According to details, the day started with overcast skies and intermittent drizzle, with the sun occasionally breaking through. However, by late evening, heavy rains lashed the city. Around 9:30pm, a strong downpour hit Hyderabad, Latifabad, and Qasimabad for about an hour, with nearly 20 minutes of intense rain, followed by lighter showers. The spell continued intermittently through the night.
The downpour caused storm drains and nullahs to overflow, submerging key intersections and low-lying areas, including Hyder Chowk, Pinjra Pol Chowk, Makki Shah Road, and adjoining neighborhoods. Water accumulation severely disrupted traffic and drainage operations.
As usual, electricity supply was suspended soon after the rains began. Widespread outages were reported across major parts of the city, further hampering drainage efforts and leaving vast areas in complete darkness.
The Pakistan Meteorolo-gical Department recorded 38 millimetres of rainfall in Hyderabad city and 50 millimetres at Latifabad (airport area) between morning and 10:30 pm. More rain was forecast to continue.
A spokesperson for the Hyderabad Electric Supply Company (HESCO) said that 62 feeders had tripped due to the rains, while electricity supply was maintained through 90 feeders. The spokesperson added that HESCO teams were working with full safety clearance to restore power to the affected areas as soon as possible.

Heavy rains accompanied by thunder and lightning continued to lash various parts of Tharparkar on Tuesday, claiming human and livestock lives.
According to reports, a young man identified as Taro Arjun Kolhi was killed in Nangarparkar's Pasool village when lightning struck during the downpour. In another incident, lightning hit a house in Ibn Ka Tar village of Islamkot, leaving members of a family unconscious.
They were shifted to the Islamkot Taluka Hospital, where they recovered after treatment and were later discharged.
Meanwhile, lightning strikes in different villages of Tharparkar also caused significant livestock losses. At least 28 goats and three cows were killed in villages including Rojh Halepota, Pir Ka Tar, Mithrio Halepota, and Padmori.
Residents said that while the rains have brought much-needed relief to the drought-hit region, the accompanying lightning strikes have caused widespread damage and fear among villagers.
Heavy rains accompanied by strong winds lashed Tando Muhammad Khan and its adjoining areas on Tuesday, submerging several low-lying neighborhoods and disrupting daily life.
The downpour inundated major roads and markets, including Shahi Bazaar, Kiryana Market, Anaj Mandi, Al-Fatah Chowk, Seerat-un-Nabi Chowk, Talpur Colony, and Behrani Mohalla. Rainwater also entered many houses, causing severe hardship for residents.
The torrential rains brought the city's communication system to a standstill, with internet services badly affected. Soon after the rainfall began, the Hyderabad Electric Supply Company (HESCO) suspended electricity supply in many areas.
Municipal authorities said drainage operations were under way, but heavy rain continued intermittently, raising fears of further flooding.
