An anti-polio campaign will be held in Rawalpindi from September 1 to 4, targeting over 800,000 children under the age of five. Health teams will go door-to-door across the district to administer polio drops.
The plan was reviewed at a meeting chaired by PML-N MNA Tahira Aurangzeb and Deputy Commissioner Dr Hassan Waqar Cheema, with officials from the Health and Education Departments, WHO, and other relevant bodies in attendance.
The CEO Health informed participants that Rawalpindi and one other Punjab district had recently been moved from the polio "red zone" to the "yellow zone" due to improved campaign performance. The DC noted that Rawalpindi's large migrant population contributes to the spread of polio, dengue, and other diseases, but credited the administration's efforts for keeping cases low.
Cheema directed strict micro-level measures and warned that negligent staff would face stern action. Aurangzeb stressed special focus on union councils with high numbers of migrant families to ensure every child receives polio drops.
