Federal Minister for Climate Change and Environmental Coordination Dr Musadik Malik met with Laura Jalasjoki, Country Representative of the Global Green Growth Initiative (GGGI), to discuss green growth partnerships and carbon market opportunities.
According to a statement issued by the ministry on Monday, Jalasjoki briefed the minister on GGGI's mission, noting that the organisation now has 51 member countries. She said GGGI works to help member states shift toward sustainable, low-carbon, and climate-resilient economies.
Malik stressed that green growth partnerships must focus on measurable impact and long-term sustainability. He said Pakistan's priority was to develop solutions that advance both adaptation and mitigation goals, particularly in climate-sensitive sectors such as agriculture.
The meeting also explored the potential of carbon markets as a financing tool for sustainable growth. Malik highlighted the need for international support to bridge gaps in carbon market mechanisms and welcomed GGGI's technical assistance.
