Failed govts should step down: Sharif

KARACHI:

Although Pakistan Muslim League (PML-N) chief Nawaz Sharif reiterated his faith in democracy in Pakistan, he said that if any government fails to deliver, it should voluntarily step down.

Governments in Pakistan should come and go through a democratic and political process; however if they fail to deliver, the rulers should step down voluntarily,” Sharif said here on Monday.

“Had my government in the centre faced a similar situation as prevails today, I would have announced elections much before,” he said while speaking to the media, following a meeting with Sindh National Front Chairman Mumtaz Ali Bhutto.

The Punjab law minister and other PML-N leaders were also present.

Sharif criticised the government for its failure to help the victims in Sindh, saying that the present government has failed to help flood-stricken people this year just like it did last year.

“President Zardari could have spent his discretionary funds for the relief and rehabilitation of flood-affected people, but unfortunately, we are in the habit of begging from the world,” Sharif remarked.
