Former Late Show host Stephen Colbert will make a guest appearance in Season 3 of CBS’s crime‐comedy series Elsbeth, where he will play Scotty Bristol, host of the fictional show Way Late with Scotty Bristol.

The role was first reported by Vulture and later confirmed by Variety.

The appearance was pitched during a 2025 interview when Elsbeth star Wendell Pierce visited The Late Show.

During their exchange, Colbert joked that he wanted to guest star, perhaps even playing a corpse, and Pierce teased, “I can make that happen.”

The third season of Elsbeth is set to premiere on October 12, 2025, and production reportedly began before CBS announced the cancellation of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert (which will end in May 2026 for financial reasons).

CBS declined to comment on the appearance, and Colbert’s representatives have not issued a statement.

His role on Elsbeth marks a continuation of his late-night persona, but in a fictional setting, despite the news that his real-world talk show is ending.
