In a recent interview on Extra, Sofia Carson and Corey Mylchreest opened up about starring in My Oxford Year, Netflix’s new romantic comedy premiering August 1, 2025.

The film explores a summer at Oxford University, where Carson plays Anna De La Vega, an ambitious American student, and Mylchreest portrays Jamie Davenport, whose poetic outlook transforms her experience.

Carson, also serving as co‑producer, described filming cherished scenes on historic Oxford bridges and libraries, highlighting the authenticity of location work.

She called one memorable kiss scene “cold and wet” and joked it was “more soggy than sexy.”

Mylchreest reflected on drawing from personal inspiration:

“I have a friend who studied at Oxford and I’d take the train there frequently, and we captured that feeling in the film.”

The story, adapted from Julia Whelan’s novel, blends literature, poetry, and first love amid the backdrop of Oxford’s architecture. Carson emphasized the emotional weight and realism infused in the narrative.

Organically filmed across iconic locations such as Magdalen College and Windsor, the production leans into realism, aiming to immerse viewers rather than rely on soundstage sets.

The film’s promotion continues with interviews on platforms including CBS Mornings and ABC News Live, where the leads discussed the depth of their characters and the emotional resonance of the project.

My Oxford Year joins Netflix’s expanding slate of romantic features and marks another starring vehicle for Carson, reinforcing her growing profile in English-language streaming cinema.
