In an excerpt of Gwyneth: The Biography, revealed by People, Amy Odell offers a revealing look at the life of Gwyneth Paltrow, from her early days on Hollywood sets to her career-defining Oscar win and Goop’s rise as a wellness brand. an excerpt revealed by People

The biography, based on over 220 interviews, covers her Hollywood romances, controversial business moments, and personal philosophies.

At 12 days old, Gwyneth visited her first film set. By 26, she won an Academy Award for Shakespeare in Love. Along the way, she dated Brad Pitt, with whom she starred in Se7en. Their breakup, she later told Howard Stern, stemmed from her lack of readiness: “I wasn’t ready, and he was too good for me.”

She went on to date Ben Affleck, whose self-destructive behaviour and addiction reportedly strained their relationship. Friends and insiders recall the emotional toll of their time together, despite her public praise of their connection.

Her wellness venture Goop began in 2008 and has since drawn praise and criticism in equal measure. The book details her pursuit of alternative health regimens, from elimination diets to controversial practices like vaginal steaming and a so-called “10-minute facelift” using sugar threads.

The biography also touches on her high-profile falling-out with Madonna and her eventual “conscious uncoupling” from Chris Martin. Her current husband, Brad Falchuk, and her children remain central to her life as she balances acting with business.

Despite frequent public scepticism, Odell writes, “Love her or hate her, we haven’t been able to look away.”

Gwyneth: The Biography hits bookshelves on July 29.
