.

LAHORE:

Following a case of cruelty, Lahore police have decided to set up two new sub-centre in the Defence A and B police stations for animal rescue.

The sub-centres will be linked with the Police Animal Rescue Centre (PARC) in Gulberg. Animals from nearby areas will be kept at these centres to be permanently shifted to the PARC.

The police also plan to take stricter measures against stray animals after incidents of children bitten by stray dogs were reported.

According to an official, the police will implement a banding system for stray dogs after neutering them, aimed at better managing the street animal population while ensuring humane treatment.

"Individuals who torture animals can also become a threat to children and women," an ASP cautioned. She appealed to the public not to give animals to mentally challenged individuals and to immediately report such behaviour to authorities.

She said initial investigation had indicated that a woman arrested after videos of her torturing domestic and exotic animals went viral on social media had been suffering from mental health issues.
