Keanu Reeves is taking active measures to protect his fans from online scammers by spending thousands of dollars each month to remove fake profiles impersonating him.
Romance scams have become increasingly common with the advancement of AI and deep fake technology. The Hollywood Reporter has noted that Reeves is among the most impersonated celebrities online, a situation partly due to his lack of social media presence and his widely known respectful public image.
According to the report, Reeves pays a monthly fee to Loti, an AI security company that helps protect public figures and corporate brands from online threats, including deep fakes and impersonations.
In Reeves’ case, Loti identifies and reports fake accounts on platforms such as TikTok and Meta for removal.
Luke Arrigoni, founder of Loti, shared that Reeves is committed to addressing this issue, explaining that nearly 40,000 account takedowns have been initiated on behalf of the actor over the past year. “He cares very much about how his fans are treated, and he’s very invested in trying to solve this problem,” Arrigoni said.
The issue extends to Reeves’ professional circle, with imposters also targeting his publicist and others linked to him.
The increase in these scams reflects wider concerns within the industry regarding the use of AI in creating fraudulent content.
Reeves’ efforts demonstrate a proactive approach to safeguarding his supporters while raising awareness of the growing risks associated with digital impersonation and online scams.
