K‑Pop Demon Hunters debuted on Netflix on June 20, 2025 and quickly earned a devoted following for its high-energy blend of K-pop, animated action, and storytelling.
The film, from Sony Pictures Animation and directors Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans, follows Huntrix, a K-pop girl group that doubles as demon hunters.
he animated film follows Huntrix, a K-pop girl group consistiing of members Rumi, Mira, and Zoey, who secretly hunt demons. Their biggest threat comes from the Saja Boys, a rival band possessed by demons aiming to destroy the Honmoon barrier using stolen fan energy.
The film’s ending revealed that Rumi is half-demon, a secret she has hidden for years. In the final battle, she embraces her identity, sings a powerful solo that weakens the enemy’s hold, and helps her group save the city. Jinu, the leader of the Saja Boys, sacrifices himself to protect her, leaving viewers with emotional closure and lingering questions.
Rumi’s heritage remains unexplored and the Honmoon isn’t fully restored amid other unresolved arcs leading viewers believe this is an intentional set-up for a sequel.
“Hear me out: this is just the beginning,” one fan posted. “We will get either a sequel or two OR a series.” Others echoed this, noting Jinu’s ambiguous fate and unfinished character arcs. “I need a sequel or the whole ahh trilogy,” one viewer said, while another added, “More of Celine and Rumi. Their plot was unfinished.”
In an interview with Shine On Media, the directors agreed, stating that there are “many unanswered questions” and “so many possibilities” for future stories.
Despite speculation however, Netflix has not yet confirmed any news about a potential part two.
