Martin Zubimendi's €60m move to Arsenal on verge of completion

The Gunners negotiated favourable payment terms with Real Sociedad, agreeing to pay 'slightly more' than €60 million

Arsenal have secured the signing of Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad, with renowned transfer expert Fabrizio Romano confirming the move is done with his signature “Here we go.”

The Gunners will pay slightly more than the €60 million release clause for the Spain international midfielder, opting to spread the cost over instalments rather than triggering the clause outright—allowing for greater financial flexibility.

“The fee will be a bit higher, but allowing payment in instalments as clubs share an excellent relationship,” Romano posted on X.

The 26-year-old midfielder, a UEFA Euro 2024 winner, had long been on Arsenal’s radar.

Despite a brief threat of a Real Madrid swoop, the north London club remained confident throughout.

Zubimendi’s arrival does not automatically spell the end for Thomas Partey, though negotiations over a contract extension with the Ghanaian have stalled.

Romano noted June 19 that no agreement has been reached and “concrete chances” exist that Partey may depart as a free agent.

Zubimendi becomes Mikel Arteta’s first major signing of the summer, with the Arsenal boss reportedly keen to add experience and composure to his midfield, especially with Champions League ambitions for the upcoming campaign.
