
The Foreign Office has sought a legal opinion from the Office of the Attorney General for Pakistan (AGP) regarding the government of Pakistan's assistance in the US court regarding the release of Dr Aafia Siddiqui.
Islamabad High Court (IHC) Justice Sardar Ijaz Ishaq Khan heard the case regarding the release and repatriation of Dr Siddiqui, who is currently imprisoned in the US. Dr Fawzia Siddiqui's lawyer Imran Shafiq and former Senator Mushtaq Ahmed and Foreign Office officials appeared in the court.
The court was informed that the Foreign Office had sought legal opinion from the Attorney General's Office regarding the government of Pakistan's legal assistance in the US court regarding the release of Dr Siddiqui.
The Attorney General's Office requested the court for grant of 10 days to submit the government's response to the Court. The court accepted the additional attorney general's request and granted one week's time, and adjourned the hearing until June 25.
