
The Chairman of the Punjab Cabinet Committee for Peace and Order, Khawaja Salman Rafique has said that foolproof security during Muharram is the provincial government's top priority. Addressing the participants of a meeting during a visit to Gujranwala along with a delegation, he emphasised that all departments must ensure strict implementation of the home department's rules and regulations.
The minister praised the role of peace committees from all schools of thought in maintaining harmony. "Peace committees play a key role in Muharram arrangements," he said, adding that divisional and district peace committees should promote religious harmony, brotherhood and tolerance.
Khawaja Salman revealed that relevant ministers have been assigned responsibilities at all divisional headquarters to ensure peaceful observance of Muharram.
Officials informed the committee that arrangements had been completed for 6,858 gatherings and 1,588 processions across Gujranwala division.
The administration has registered 258 speakers, while imposing restrictions on 91 others.
The minister also met the local peace committees, including prominent religious scholars. Christian community representative Shahzad Lawrence and Saeed Ahmad Siddiqui also participated in the discussions.
Following the meetings, the delegation visited the central procession route.
