Domestic Indian flight makes emergency landing in Nagpur after bomb threat

An IndiGo flight from Kochi to New Delhi made an emergency landing in India's Nagpur on Tuesday after receiving a bomb threat, authorities said. All passengers were safely disembarked, and no suspicious items have been found so far.

The flight, 6E 2706, had arrived in Kochi from Muscat and was en route to New Delhi when the threat was received via email at Cochin International Airport, officials said.

Lohit Matani, Deputy Commissioner of Police in Nagpur, told a local news wire service that investigations are ongoing and nothing dangerous has been discovered.

The aircraft was carrying 157 passengers and six crew members. A Bomb Threat Assessment Committee convened at Kochi airport had categorised the threat as "specific", prompting the precautionary landing.

“The information was promptly communicated to relevant authorities following which the flight made an emergency landing at Nagpur airport and is currently undergoing inspection,” Cochin International Airport said in a statement carried by PTI.

Security checks were underway Tuesday afternoon. The flight is expected to continue to Delhi once cleared by authorities.

This incident comes a day after another IndiGo flight from Goa to Lucknow encountered turbulence due to severe monsoon weather over western India. No injuries or damage were reported.
