ISLAMABAD:

In response to the alarming surge in street crime across the capital, the Islamabad Police have initiated a major reshuffling of personnel.

Following the transfer of 370 officials, including sub-inspectors, assistant sub-inspectors (ASIs), and constables, across 27 police stations, the department has now decided to also replace all Station House Officers (SHOs).

This move comes amid growing public pressure and widespread calls for reform. Citizens, especially on social media platforms, have welcomed the earlier wave of transfers and are now strongly advocating for the replacement of SHOs as well. Many have voiced concerns that without changes at the leadership level, efforts to curb crime would remain ineffective.

The transfer of SHOs is expected to take place before Eidul Azha. The decision is part of a broader strategy to improve law enforcement and restore public confidence in the police force.

Officials with a history of complaints or poor performance are being reassigned to less sensitive roles, such as postings in police lines, jail security, or station guards. The comprehensive reshuffle is aimed at bringing in more capable officers and ensuring accountability within the force.

Security plan outlined

Meanwhile, a special security plan has been formulated to protect buyers from street criminals in livestock markets in the federal capital. Around 1,200 officers and personnel have been deployed in six cattle markets.

They will take strict legal action against those who set up illegal cattle markets. The Islamabad DIG stated that strict action will be taken against those who violate SOPs. Markets are not permitted to be established anywhere except at designated locations.
