Kylian Mbappe has been crowned the European Golden Shoe winner for the first time, following a sensational debut season with Real Madrid.

The French forward scored 31 league goals, securing both the coveted Golden Shoe and La Liga's top scorer award.

Mbappe’s double in Real Madrid’s 2-0 victory over Real Sociedad on Saturday propelled him to the top of the European rankings.

His goals sealed his place ahead of Sporting CP’s Victor Gyokeres, who finished second with 39 goals, and Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah, who scored 29.

Despite Gyokeres’ impressive tally, he was unable to match Mbappe’s points, as the rankings use a weighted points system.

Goals scored in Europe’s top five leagues — including La Liga, the Premier League, Bundesliga, Serie A, and Ligue 1 — are awarded two points each, while goals from players in lower-ranked leagues receive 1.5 points.

Mbappe’s final tally of 62 points was enough to clinch the prize, with Gyokeres trailing on 58.5 points.

Salah, who needed a hat-trick to catch Mbappe, managed just one goal in Liverpool’s 1-1 draw against Crystal Palace.

The 25-year-old now joins an elite group of Real Madrid players to have won the prestigious award, with Hugo Sanchez (1989-90) and Cristiano Ronaldo (2010-11, 2013-14, 2014-15) previously claiming the honour.

Gyokeres, who has been heavily linked with a summer move to Arsenal, ended his season with 53 goals in 51 matches across all competitions.

Salah, who finished with 58 points, will have to wait for his chance to win the Golden Shoe once again.

The final top five in the rankings were as follows: Mbappe (62 points), Gyokeres (58.5), Salah (58), Robert Lewandowski (54), and Harry Kane (52).
