Billy Joel has announced the cancellation of all scheduled concerts following a recent health diagnosis that has affected his ability to perform. The 76-year-old “Piano Man” singer revealed that he has been diagnosed with normal pressure hydrocephalus (NPH), a brain condition that has worsened his balance, hearing, and vision. The announcement was made on May 23, through a post shared on his Instagram account.
Joel explained that his condition, which had been aggravated by recent performances, has led to significant challenges in his health. His medical team has recommended physical therapy, and he has been advised to refrain from performing while he focuses on recovery. "I’m sincerely sorry to disappoint our audience, and thank you for understanding," Joel said in his statement.
In the wake of his diagnosis, Joel also expressed his gratitude for the care he is receiving and reassured his fans that he is fully committed to prioritizing his health. "I look forward to the day when I can once again take the stage," he added.
The cancellation includes several highly anticipated concerts across North America and England, including shows in New York City, New Orleans, Toronto, and Liverpool. Ticket refunds will be processed automatically without requiring any action from ticket holders.
This announcement follows a February onstage fall during a performance at Mohegan Sun in Connecticut, which led to the postponement of Joel's tour dates through June. Despite the setback, his team has stated that the singer is expected to make a full recovery, with plans to resume his tour in July 2025.
Joel, whose career spans decades, has earned five Grammy Awards and sold over 150 million records. He remains one of the most influential figures in the music industry.
More updates on his recovery and future performances are expected.
