Taiwanese electronics giant Foxconn has confirmed that its upcoming artificial intelligence (AI) data centre, developed in partnership with Nvidia, will be constructed in phases and is targeted to reach a 100-megawatt (MW) power capacity.

The announcement was made by Foxconn Chairman Young Liu during the Computex 2025 trade show in Taipei.

The AI centre is part of a broader initiative unveiled by Nvidia on Monday, involving Foxconn, chipmaking heavyweight TSMC, and the Taiwanese government.

The partnership aims to strengthen Taiwan’s position in global AI infrastructure, supporting smart cities, autonomous vehicles, and next-generation computing technologies.

"This AI data centre is targeted to have 100 megawatts of power," said Liu. "We know that power is a very critical resource in Taiwan. I don't want to use the word 'shortage'. So it will take a few steps to reach 100 megawatts. We'll start with 20 megawatts ... then add another 40."

Additional capacity will be added as power resources allow, with Kaohsiung, a city in southwestern Taiwan, identified as the initial location.

Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang, also speaking at Computex, described the centre as an "AI factory" that will serve Foxconn, Nvidia, and the wider Taiwanese technology ecosystem.

“We’re going to build an AI factory right for you (Foxconn) to use, for me to use, and for Taiwan — the entire ecosystem — to use,” Huang stated.

He added that Nvidia has over 350 partners in Taiwan, highlighting the island’s central role in the global AI supply chain.

The centre will support advanced AI training, data processing, and the development of solutions for smart city infrastructure, smart electric vehicles (EVs), and other emerging technologies.

It also reflects Foxconn’s ongoing pivot from traditional electronics manufacturing to high-value technology sectors, including semiconductors, AI, and renewable energy.

The project comes at a time when Taiwan’s energy constraints are under scrutiny, and data centre expansion must align with national sustainability goals.

Despite this, the Foxconn-Nvidia partnership signals strong government backing for innovation in the AI and tech sectors.
