Robbers on the loose: two lives lost in two days

SHO Landhi suspended following strong protests by residents

KARACHI:

The SHO of Landhi has been suspended following a protest demanding justice and an inquiry into two alleged robberies that claimed two innocent lives in two consecutive days. In the latest incident, motorcycle riding robbers shot and killed 36-year-old Shah Fahad for offering resistance on Friday night. The victim received a gun shot in his face and succumbed to his injuries at Jinnah Hospital.

The robbers fled after the incident, leaving behind the deceased's mobile phone but taking the cash he was carrying. According to Shah Owais, younger brother of the deceased, Fahad worked as a compressor mechanic. He was on his way home when robbers shot him dead.

This incident follows a similar incident that took place on Thursday, when robbers shot 10-year-old Ameen in the head, killing him at his doorsteps. His aunt, Nasira, was also shot and injured.

The shootings sparked severe unrest, with residents demanding the suspension of the SHO of Landhi and an impartial review of the police officers' performance. The total number of citizens killed in robbery incidents has risen to 44 so far this year.

Following the incident, the family and area residents staged a protest, demanding justice and the arrest of the killers.

The protesters held placards, demanding the elimination of dacoits from the city and better performance of police.

The SHO of Landhi has been suspended, but questions remain about the performance of other officers in District Korangi.
