Couple among three killed in road crashes

Three people - including a couple - were killed in two separate road accidents in different parts of the metropolitan city on Wednesday night.

In the first incident, a speeding coaster slammed into a motorcycle near Siemens Chowrangi in Site Area, resulting in the death of a woman and critical injuries to her husband. The injured man, identified as 55-year-old Jamil Ahmed, later succumbed to his injuries at Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.

The deceased woman was identified as 50-year-old Nighat. The couple, residents of Orangi Town Sector 11/5, were pronounced dead hours apart.

Police arrested the coaster driver, Ansar and impounded the vehicle. The bodies were handed over to the family after medico-legal formalities.

In a second incident, a speeding oil tanker crushed a motorcyclist, severing his head from his body in Clifton. The victim, identified as 45-year-old Munir Nazar, was a resident of Quaidabad.

The tanker driver fled the scene, but police seized the vehicle and launched a manhunt. Chhipa volunteers recovered the body and shifted the severed head to JPMC. The victim's remains were placed in the morgue pending family's arrival.
