Sexagenarian man murdered by two sons

Suspects taken into custody as they tried to dispose of body stuffed in sack

KARACHI:

Police arrested two men in Federal B Area on Monday as they were allegedly trying to dispose of the body of their father stuffed in a sack.

According to District Central SSP Zeeshan Shafiq Siddiqui, the body was identified as that of 60-year-old Khawar Anjum, a hakeem from Tando Jan Muhammad in Mirpurkhas district. He had been living with his two sons at Madrassa Zakariya Khairiya near Falah Mosque in Block 15 of Jauharabad.

According to preliminary investigations, the victim was murdered by his sons, Ibrahim and Afzal, over a prolonged domestic dispute. First, the suspects allegedly poisoned their father by mixing rat poison into his drink, then tortured and strangled him to death.

The body was wrapped in plastic, stuffed in a sack, and loaded onto a motorcycle for disposal when the suspects were stopped by police during a routine patrol and snap checking. Police found the body during the search and took the suspects into custody.

Rashid Rehman, SHO of Jauharabad police station, said that they will register a murder case against the suspect once the victim's wife, another son, and a daughter residing in their native village arrive in Karachi.

According to police sources, the murder appears to have stemmed from an ongoing dispute between the victims and his sons. The father had reportedly been urging his sons, who were jobless, to return to their agricultural land in Tando Jan Muhammad. One of the suspects, the younger son, was a student of computer science at Karachi University.

The body of the deceased was shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for a postmortem examination. Further investigation is ongoing.
