Speculation is swirling around Jeremy Renner’s possible return as Hawkeye in Avengers: Doomsday, following a new set photo shared by Robert Downey Jr.

The image, posted on Instagram, shows Downey seated outside his trailer beside a Doctor Doom comic poster with the message: “Do not Knock. Trust yourself.”

The cryptic post drew a heartfelt reply from Renner: “Long way from the ICU…. At least we know how this story ends my brother. Love you.”

Renner’s comment, referencing his near-fatal snowplow accident in early 2023, immediately fueled rumours that the actor could reprise his role in the upcoming Avengers film.

So far, Marvel Studios has not confirmed Renner’s involvement.

The speculation comes just weeks after Renner revealed he turned down Hawkeye Season 2, citing what he called an “insult offer” — reportedly half the salary of Season 1.

“Maybe that’s why you want to pay me half — because I got run over?” he told the High Performance podcast.

Renner has since focused on recovery and promoting his memoir My Next Breath, in which he details his physical and emotional journey post-accident.

While a Disney source disputed Renner’s pay cut claims, the actor maintains he was simply asking for equal compensation.

Whether or not Renner officially rejoins the Avengers remains unconfirmed, but Downey’s post — and the camaraderie it suggests — has certainly ignited hope among fans that Hawkeye isn’t done just yet.
