Cassie Ventura, the former girlfriend of music mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs, took the stand as a key witness in the ongoing sex-trafficking trial against Combs.
Ventura, who is one of Combs’ accusers, delivered a harrowing account of her relationship with the music mogul, which prosecutors say involved coercion and abuse. Her testimony, according to CNN legal analyst Jennifer Rogers, is central to the prosecution’s case, as she provides insight into the alleged exploitation and abuse by Combs.
Ventura testified that her relationship with Combs began platonically when she was signed to his Bad Boy Records at the age of 19. However, over time, the relationship became abusive and controlling. She recounted how Combs pressured her into participating in “Freak Offs” – sex parties that involved male prostitutes. Ventura described feeling trapped in the relationship, unable to refuse Combs’ demands, as he exerted control over both her personal and professional life.
The trial, which has garnered significant media attention, also revealed disturbing allegations of physical and emotional abuse. Ventura said that Combs frequently subjected her to violent outbursts, including hitting and dragging her. She recalled instances where she was physically assaulted during arguments, leaving her with bruises and knots on her forehead.
One of the most chilling aspects of Ventura’s testimony was her account of the “Freak Offs,” which could last up to four days. She explained that the events, which involved drug use and forced sexual encounters, left her physically and emotionally drained, and she spent long periods recovering from them. Ventura also spoke about her fears of blackmail, revealing that she kept broken devices like phones and iPads in case any compromising materials were used against her.
The testimony of Ventura, who has been referred to as “Victim 1” in the indictment, is seen as pivotal in the case against Combs, who faces charges of racketeering, sex trafficking, and transportation for prostitution. While Combs has denied all allegations, Ventura’s account, supported by evidence from a previous civil lawsuit, has provided crucial evidence to the prosecution.
As the trial unfolds, Ventura's testimony continues to shed light on the dark side of Combs' career and his alleged abuse of power, leaving a lasting impact on both her life and the legal proceedings.
