Former prime minister Imran Khan's sister, Aleema Khan, who was granted a protective bail by the Peshawar High Court (PHC) on Monday, claimed she has been named in 42 cases as punishment for conveying messages from her incarcerated brother to the public.
Aleemawho was not active in politics before the ouster of Imran Khan in April 2022appeared before a PHC division bench comprising Justice Waqar Ahmed and Justice Farah Jamshed.
Her lawyer, Alam Khan Adeenzai, informed the court that Aleema is already on bail in all the cases filed against her. However, he said that after May 8, multiple raids were conducted on her residences.
"It has come to light that she has been implicated in supplementary reports in 42 cases. She wishes to appear before the relevant courts. We have contested all previous cases and are willing to face any new legal proceedings," he told the bench.
The lawyer requested a 28-day protective bail, which the court granted. Authorities were directed not to arrest Aleema during this period, and she was instructed to appear before the courts hearing her cases.
During the hearing, Aleema attempted to address the bench, but Justice Ahmed advised her to allow her lawyer to speak on her behalf.
Speaking to the media outside the courtroom, Aleema said that she came to know that she was charged in 42 cases during a hearing at the Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) of Rawalpindi.
"I was told that I conveyed the messages of Imran [to people] after meeting him [at Adiala Jail]. However, I am not the only one to do this so why am I targeted and charged in these cases?" she asked.
