Negating the provincial government's claims of quelling the menace of the riverbed areas' dacoits, seven persons of a family including a four years old child were kidnapped from their house in a village in Shikarpur district on Sunday.
The affected family and their neighbours informed the police that at least 20 armed men barged in the residence of Azizullah Malik, held the family hostage and took away their seven family members.
The incident happened in village Sukhio Malik in the limits of Bachal Bhayo police station, located in a riverine area of Shikarpur. The family identified the abducted persons as Azizullah, Noor Muhammad, Shafi Muhammad, Farman, Ahsaan and Suleman.
The kidnapping is said to be a one-off incident because the bandits mostly pick their targets by luring them in honey traps or from the highways and link roads. The Shikarpur police is yet to register the incident's FIR. The family sources told the media that they were being given shallow assurances about early recovery of the abducted persons.
The family and their neighbours also later staged a sit-in protest in their town, blaming the police for the incident and demanding urgent recovery. The Sindh home minister Ziaul Hassan Lanjar took notice and directed the district's police to recover kidnapped persons and to submit a report.
