Heavy rain, hailstorm hit Islamabad and Rawalpindi

Rain led to water accumulation on roads, disrupting vehicular movement and resulting in traffic jams.

Heavy rainfall accompanied by hailstorm hit Islamabad and Rawalpindi on Sunday evening, turning the weather pleasant in twin cities, Express News reported.

According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), dark clouds gathered over the cities before strong downpour. The rain led to water accumulation on roads, disrupting vehicular movement and resulting in traffic jams at major intersections.

Some areas of Islamabad also experienced hail, consistent with the PMD’s earlier forecast warning of heavy rainfall and hailstorm in the capital region.

Residents of Islamabad have shared videos of the recent hailstorm and heavy rain on Twitter, capturing dramatic scenes of the sudden weather change. Authorities have advised commuters to exercise caution and avoid waterlogged areas until the drainage systems clear the roads.

Last month, heavy rain, strong winds, and hailstorms struck Islamabad and surrounding areas. The sudden downpour and powerful gusts brought a noticeable drop in temperature. However, the severe hailstorm caused damage to vehicles, shattering the glass windows of several cars.
