HYDERABAD:

Medical experts have expressed concern over the rapid increase in fatty liver disease in Pakistan. They said that according to an estimate, every third person is a victim of fatty liver disease. If the disease is left untreated, the patient may suffer from liver cirrhosis, which may lead to liver cancer. They have advised to adopt preventive measures which can help avoid this serious health complication.

An awareness seminar was organised at a local hotel on the topic of fatty liver and precautions. Renowned hepatologists and gastroenterologists including Professor Dr. Santosh Kumar, Professor Sadiq Memon, Professor Dr. Imran Sheikh, Professor Dr. Feroz Memon, and Dr. Arif Sikandri addressed the participants. The experts stressed the urgent need of collective efforts to better understanding of liver complications and spread awareness about the disease.

The experts said that the liver is the largest and most vital organ in the human body, playing a crucial role in metabolizing nutrients from food. This process provides energy and helps produces proteins. Additionally, the liver produces bile which is essential for digestion and helps eliminate toxins from the body.
