
A couple died in a road accident while their six-year-old child fell into a canal and could not be found till the evening.
Dozens of relatives of the deceased blocked the Canal Road and shouted slogans in protest against alleged delay in the rescue operation.
On the other hand, a Rescue 1122 spokesperson, Zahid Latif, said that as per rules, such operations are not carried out in rivers and canals at night. The operations are carried out in daylight.
He said the rescue operation had been launched early in the morning.
According to the police, Arif Ali, a resident of Dhuddiwala, stated in his complaint that his brother, 34-year-old Waris Ali, his wife, 28-year-old Tania Waris and six-year-old son were going on a motorcycle from Kashmir Bridge to Chak 4 on West Canal Road when a speeding car driven by Muhammad Zohaib Khurram, a resident of Officers Colony hit them.
As a result, the complainant's brother and sister-in-law died on the spot, while his nephew Subhan fell into the canal branch.
A search for the boy was under way.
Mansoorabad police took possession of the bodies and handed them over to the heirs after post-mortem.
The police registered a case against three suspects under Section 322 of the PPC and started a search for them.
Meanwhile, according to the police, in the area of Police Station Madina Town, Rao Imran, a resident of Ali Garden, Madina Town (brother-in-law of Qaiser Shabbir) from Makkah Commercial Market was shot at night by three unknown motorcyclists near Dawood Chowk while returning home after closing his shop.
He was seriously injured in the firing with a 30-bore pistol and was taken to the hospital for medical treatment, where he later succumbed to his injuries. Police took the body into custody and shifted it to the hospital.
In another incident in the jurisdiction of Police Station City Tandlianwala, unknown assailants entered the home of 35-year-old Munazza Bibi, sister of Lashkar, and attacked her and her husband Farooq, with knives, severely injuring them. They were taken to the hospital for treatment, but Munazza Bibi succumbed to her injuries.
According to the police, she had been married to Farooq for eight years and had three children. The attackers intended to kill the couple with knives. Munazza died in the hospital while her husband remains in critical condition. Police have shifted the body to the hospital and initiated proceedings.
In a land cultivation dispute in area of Saddar Tandlianwala police station, the suspects grabbed the landlord Mehndi Hassan by the neck and tortured him with sticks and suits, due to which he became unconscious. After medical assistance, he was shifted to the hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
