The District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) met on Friday to assess preparedness and response measures for potential rain-related emergencies and natural disasters in Thatta district.
Deputy Commissioner Munawar Abbas Soomro, who presided over the meeting, directed all department heads to remain on high alert around the clock and ensure their presence at headquarters.
He ordered the immediate establishment of functional control rooms in all relevant offices, which must operate 24/7 during emergencies. Departments were instructed to ensure all machinery and equipment are in working condition and that advance arrangements are in place for timely and coordinated response efforts.
Health department officials were directed to ensure the availability of medical staff, emergency services, and essential medicines at all healthcare facilities. The DC also stressed the importance of inter-departmental coordination and directed HESCO officials to avoid unannounced load-shedding to ensure uninterrupted water supply.
Social Welfare officials and NGOs were asked to keep trained volunteers ready for rapid deployment.
