Man Utd crush Athletic to set up Europa League final showdown with Spurs

Manchester United beat Athletic Club 4-1 at Old Trafford, sealing a Europa League final clash with Tottenham.

Manchester United mounted a sensational comeback to beat Athletic Club 4-1 on the night and 7-1 on aggregate, storming into the Europa League final where they will face Tottenham Hotspur.

Trailing 1-0 after a stunning first-half goal by Athletic’s Mikel Jauregizar, United looked on the verge of another European meltdown.

But substitute Mason Mount turned the game around, scoring twice in a blistering second-half performance at Old Trafford.

Manager Ruben Amorim had made eight changes from Sunday’s Premier League defeat to Brentford, reverting to the starting XI from last week’s 3-0 away win in Bilbao.

With the absence of key players like Nico and Inaki Williams, and Dani Vivian suspended, the Spanish side came in undermanned but dangerous.

Mount’s 72nd-minute equaliser reignited United’s attack. Minutes later, Casemiro and Rasmus Højlund added to the tally as the home side completely flipped the script.

Despite a disastrous domestic season, United now have a shot at silverware in the Europa League final, which will see them face fellow English side Tottenham on May 22.

The victory sends a clear message — when the lights are brightest, Old Trafford can still deliver the drama
