Netflix has released the official trailer for The Old Guard 2, marking Charlize Theron’s return as Andy, the leader of a group of immortal warriors. The sequel to the 2020 hit picks up with the team facing a renewed threat, further complicated by the unexpected return of a long-lost immortal.
The returning cast includes Kiandra “KiKi” Layne, Matthias Schoenaerts, Marwan Kenzari, Luca Marinelli, Chiwetel Ejiofor and Veronica Ngo. New faces joining the action include Henry Golding, Uma Thurman and Kamil Nozynski. Together, they form a diverse ensemble that continues the franchise’s focus on global storytelling and high-stakes missions.
Directed by Victoria Mahoney, the sequel is based on the graphic novel by Greg Rucka and Leandro Fernandez. Rucka co-wrote the screenplay alongside Fernandez and Sarah L. Walker. The film is produced by Theron, A.J. Dix, David Ellison, Marc Evans, Dana Goldberg, Don Granger, Beth Kono and Gina Prince-Bythewood, with Rucka also serving as executive producer.
The first instalment of The Old Guard was released in 2020 and reportedly drew over 72 million viewers in its first month. The follow-up experienced production delays due to internal changes at Netflix, according to Theron, who noted that post-production halted shortly after filming began.
The trailer teases explosive action sequences and character-driven drama, as Andy and her fellow immortals confront a powerful enemy while navigating their complex history. The emergence of a long-lost member adds emotional stakes to an already dangerous mission, intensifying the battle to protect humanity.
With a July 2, 2025 release date, The Old Guard 2 is expected to draw significant attention from global audiences looking for high-concept action cinema.
