The federal government has imposed a 60-day ban on the import and export of gold, diamonds, gemstones and jewellery, with immediate effect.
The Ministry of Commerce has formally issued directives in this regard.
According to a notification issued by the ministry, an earlier order governing the trade of precious stones and jewellery, initially issued under SRO No. 760()/2013, has been suspended for a period of two months.
A senior official at the Ministry of Commerce confirmed that the notification effectively halts the cross-border movement of gold, diamonds, jewellery and gemstones for the next 60 days.
