US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has urged Pakistan and India to exercise restraint and seek a peaceful resolution to the conflict.
“I am monitoring the situation between India and Pakistan closely,” Rubio stated on social media platform X. “I echo @POTUS’s comments earlier today that this hopefully ends quickly and will continue to engage both Indian and Pakistani leadership towards a peaceful resolution.”
Rubio’s remarks come in the wake of India’s missile strikes on multiple locations inside Pakistan. In response, Pakistan shot down at least five Indian fighter jets and has since declared a state of emergency in Punjab province.
The US secretary of state has been actively engaging with the leadership of both countries in a bid to prevent further escalation. Earlier, President Donald Trump also commented on the developments, describing the cross-border attacks as “shameful.”
