Teyana Taylor made a powerful fashion statement at the 2025 Met Gala, arriving in a symbolic custom look co-designed with legendary Black Panther costume designer Ruth E. Carter.

The theme of the night, “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style,” was reflected in every inch of Taylor’s look, from her tailored pinstripe suit to a dramatic red cape that honored her Harlem roots.

Taylor, 34, wore a three-piece red pinstripe suit with a red vest, silver chain details, and a striking padded cape that featured the words “Harlem rose” stitched into its flowing train. Silver flower lapel pins, a red fedora with a feather, red leather gloves, and a bright red cane completed the ensemble, making it one of the night’s standout looks.

Speaking with Vogue, Taylor shared, “I’m already not a big dress girl. I’m in suits even without it being a suit theme,” leaning into the evening’s menswear-inspired dress code, “Tailored for You.”

Carter, who won Oscars for her work on Black Panther and Wakanda Forever, helped Taylor style the impactful look and was even spotted adjusting her cape on the carpet. “As we embarked on our journey in this country, we were stripped of everything… A lot of times the only thing you had was to show it on your body,” Carter told Vogue.

In addition to walking the carpet, Taylor co-hosted the Met Gala livestream for Vogue alongside Ego Nwodim and La La Anthony. Her presence—along with her bold, tailored look—embodied the theme’s celebration of Black style, cultural identity, and storytelling through fashion.
