Creation of south Punjab province will end sense of deprivation: Gilani

Prime minister says people will reject those who are against the creation of a new province.

Prime Minister Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani, speaking about the creation of a new province for the people of southern Punjab, said it would end their sense of deprivation.

Addressing a public gathering after performing the ground-breaking ceremony of the housing project for flood victims, Gilani said the people will reject those who are against the creation of a new province.

During the ceremony, Gilani was informed that the New Muzaffargarh City project would comprise of 1,274 new homes, to be built with donations collected by the people of Turkey to help the flood victims of Pakistan.

A 432-kanal piece of land has been allocated for this purpose in the city’s suburbs. The prime minister was informed that 500 houses will be built in Fazalpur and another 346 in Jampur tehsil of Rajanpur district.

Another 2,000 homes would be built in Shikarpur in Sindh and 500 in Dera Allah Yar in Balochistan. The overall cost of the houses being built for the flood-hit people has been estimated at $138 million. The work began in March 2011 and it would be completed in 700 days by Feb 2013, officials said.

Gilani said that Turkey would build 4,620 residential units for the flood victims.  He said other facilities like schools, mosques, health centres would also be constructed.

He urged the people of Pakistan to reach out to help their brethren who were homeless and do as much as possible so that they may be rehabilitated without any delay.

The prime minister said that the people of Muzaffargarh would be provided with the facilities of motorway, modern airport and by-passes which would bring a revolution in the area.

He said an installation of PARCO refinery would be set up in the vicinity which would generate employment in the area.

Gilani said the government was elected for five years and assured the people that it would maximize its efforts to provide facilities to people during rest of its tenure.


Gilani pledges development package for Muzaffargarh

Prime Minister Gilani on Saturday pledged a development package for Muzaffargarh in days ahead. He announced this while responding to the demands by local representatives of people including Abdul Qayyum Jatoi and Jamshed Dasti at a public meeting here.

Gilani said that he would soon convene a meeting of MPAs and MNAs of Muzaffargarh to formulate a development package in the light of their recommendations.

The Prime Minister said that development is the right of people and the government is bound to serve them.

He instructed Coordinator for Social Sector Begum Shahnaz Wazir Ali and MD Baitul Maal Zamurd Khan to survey the area, in consultation with the people and their representatives, to assess their development needs and requirements.

Gilani visits relief, medical camps in Sangarh; assures all out support to flood-affected people

Gilani said despite the limited resources, the government is taking all steps to ensure the provision of relief to the people, affected by devastating rains and floods in Sindh.

The scale of devastation caused by heavy rains and floods in Sindh is far beyond imagination, he said, and hoped that the government will overcome this challenge as philanthropists, donor agencies and the international institutions were with them.

The Prime Minister expressed these views while visiting the relief and medical camps, set up for the people affected by recent heavy rains and floods in Sangarh.

The Prime Minister on this occasion also distributed ration bags among the affected people.
