KARACHI:

East district police chief SSP Dr Farrukh Raza has suspended SHO Jamshed Quarter Ashraf Jogi for his alleged involvement in short-term kidnapping and extortion of a businessman. SSP Raza has ordered a formal inquiry into the incident.

Additional IG Karachi Javed Alam Odho also took notice of the case. Ashraf Jogi will now be investigated by SSP East.

According to sources, ASI Rizwan Constable Umar Sheikh and civilians identified as Faizan alias Faizi, Adil Pathan, and Khalil were allegedly involved in withdrawing money from the ATM account of trader Abdul Ghaffar. They have also reportedly snatched 18 mobile phones from him. An investigation is ongoing to determine where these phones were taken from.

The incident occurred on April 29, when Abdul Ghaffar, a mobile phone trader at Guru Mandir, was taken into custody by officials from the Jamshed Quarter Police and a so-called "special party." During his unlawful detention, the suspects allegedly demanded a ransom of Rs150,000, snatched his mobile phones, and took a valuable watch.

Sources claim that former SHO Ashraf Jogi attempted to shield the accused officers by registering a weak case and altering the trader's original statement filed under Section 154.

Additionally, Faizan, one of the accused, is said to have a known criminal record and has previously been arrested by law enforcement agencies.
