LAHORE:

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has said that 300 more houses are being built every day in the province on an average for homeless people.

Inaugurating the e-portal of 'Apni Zameen, Apna Ghar' Programme, she said, "People can apply for free plots on the e-portal: azag.punjab.gov.pk as 2,000 plots will be given in 23 housing schemes in 19 districts across Punjab."

The chief minister said homeless people will be given free three-marla plots under the scheme.

Those who get plots through a draw under the programme will also get loans to construct their houses.

In Phase-I, free plots will be given in Jhelum, Pattoki, Mamun Kanjan, Lodhran and Renala Khurd.

The chief minister said that within six months, approximately 34,000 houses are being built, while 2,000 have been completed."

She said the housing programme is the easiest and three-month grace period has been set for the construction of houses. Repayment of loans has also started in installments.

She lamented, "There are people across Punjab who do not have land to build houses. Initially, 2,000 people will get free plots."

The chief minister said earlier governments had not been able to build 34,000 houses even during their full tenures."
