A large number of lawyers reached the Defence Police Station on Friday night to register a case against the Defence Police under court orders.
The police refused to register the case, prompting the lawyers to stage a protest and block traffic at the Sunset Boulevard Signal on the Korangi Road.
The protest caused a severe traffic jam, resulting in long queues of vehicles and immense difficulty for ordinary citizens.
The incident stems from a previous altercation between lawyers and Defence Police over the detention of two law students.
The Defence Police Station had registered a case against named and unknown individuals for alleged vandalism and rioting at the police station on April 24. However, the lawyers accused the police of using excessive force, firing, and injuring several people.
