Fortnite servers were taken offline early Friday as Epic Games prepared to launch Chapter 6 Season 3, titled Galactic Battle, its most expansive collaboration with Star Wars to date.
The new season also features the in-game premiere of Star Wars: Tales of the Underworld, ahead of its wider release on Disney+ on Sunday 4 May.
According to Epic Games, Fortnite servers went down at 1 a.m. CT and are expected to be back online by approximate 5 a.m. However, players have experienced delays during previous season rollouts, so the timing could shift depending on technical requirements.
The new season introduces Star Wars characters including Darth Jar Jar and Emperor Palpatine, along with themed gameplay elements such as lightsabers, blasters, X-wings, and TIE Fighters. Players can unlock the First Order Stormtrooper outfit by linking their Epic Games and MyDisney accounts, with more crossover features expected in the weeks ahead.
“For the first time, Disney+ is premiering a show inside a game, launching alongside our largest Star Wars collaboration with Fortnite to date,” said Sean Shoptaw, Executive Vice President of Disney Games & Digital Entertainment. “We’re building the next era of digital entertainment.”
The Star Wars: Tales of the Underworld premiere begins at 9 a.m. CT on Friday via Fortnite’s Watch Party Island. Future episodes are scheduled for release on 8, 22, and 29 May, and 7 June.
As users wait for servers to return, Epic encourages players to ensure game files are updated in advance to avoid additional login delays.
