Fernandes scores twice as ManU beat Athletic Club 3-0 in Europa League semi-final first leg

Manchester United took a step towards the Europa League final with a 3-0 win over 10-man Athletic Bilbao in the semi-final first leg at San Mames on Thursday.

The hosts started brightly but failed to convert early chances through Inaki Williams and Alex Berenguer.

United went ahead on 30 minutes when Harry Maguire set up Casemiro for a close-range header. Seven minutes later, Athletic were reduced to 10 men after Dani Vivian fouled Rasmus Hojlund in the box.

Bruno Fernandes converted the penalty and added a second just before halftime following a flick from Manuel Ugarte.
