Joint efforts urged for heatwave preparedness

As temperatures in Thatta reach alarming levels of 41°C, a crucial multisectoral committee meeting was held to address the growing heatwave crisis.

The meeting was chaired by Additional District Health Officer of the Health Department Dr Amna Shams.

During the meeting, Javed Soz, the Head of Sindh Community Foundation (SCF), highlighted the severe public health risks associated with rising temperatures, particularly for women and children.

He pointed out that Thatta, which historically saw temperatures between 30°C and 35°C, is now experiencing extreme heat that poses a direct threat to the health of its residents.

"The heatwave is no longer just a seasonal change; it's a life-threatening issue, especially for women who are at greater risk of dehydration, fatigue, and pregnancy complications," said Soz.
