Three convicted in murder cases, jailed for life
Session courts in Rawalpindi have announced verdicts in three separate murder cases, including the brutal double murder of a couple and the killing of a woman who was set on fire by her husband following a domestic dispute.
In one of the most high-profile cases, Additional District and Sessions Judge Muhammad Azfar Khan sentenced convict Rafaqat to two counts of death penalty and imposed a fine of Rs1 million for the murder of Zafran and Rabia Bibi in the jurisdiction of Murree police station.
The court ruled that Rafaqat be hanged until death for each murder.
In another case, Additional District and Sessions Judge of Taxila handed down the death penalty to a man named Kashif for setting his wife on fire and killing her in cold blood over a domestic dispute.
The court also ordered him to pay Rs0.3 million in compensation. The Wah Cantt police had registered the case in March 2021.
Separately, the Sessions Judge sentenced Muhammad Younis to life imprisonment and a fine of Rs0.5 million for murdering a man named Jahanzeb over a land dispute in April 2021.
The case was registered at Mandira police station.
In a fourth case, Additional District and Sessions Judge in Gujar Khan sentenced convict Rashid to life imprisonment and Rs0.5 million in compensation for killing a man named Ashraf over a property dispute. The incident was reported in July 2023 at Gujar Khan police station.
Following the sentencing, CPO Syed Khalid Hamdani commended the SSP Investigation along with the investigation and legal teams for their efforts. He emphasised that all necessary measures are being taken to ensure perpetrators of serious crimes like murder receive strict punishment and stated that such criminals do not deserve any leniency.
